Just checked the product, and it is not detected in my PC running windows 7!! Not sure what to do now!!Ĭapacity: 1TBColor: Black Verified Purchase The following text contains only examples of reviews mentioning Windows 7 since 2020.Ĭapacity: 2TBColor: Black Verified Purchase Some online reviewers say it does not work, some say it does, and reviewers do not provide much to troubleshoot other than their operating system, so it could just be bad luck, therefore I am lost. Also, did these drives function with Windows Vista or XP back when they only mentioned Windows 7, 8 and 10? That could be a hint). (You are free to mention other brands of recent external HDD that still work with Windows 7 if you have had good experiences, I like Windows 7 and want to be sure that it is not being forsaken by tech companies. So that in case it does not work, I am not told "We warned you" by the seller.

So I need confirmations of people who purchased WD Elements or WD My Passport after Microsoft ended the support for Windows 7 in January 14, 2020, and who have the boxes that only mention Windows 8.1 and 10. My guess is that Western Digital just wanted to legally cover their backs by not promising support for an "outdated" OS, but I do not know if they actually changed anything inside the disk.

Others are mixed, multiple websites mention Windows 7 somewhere in the page, I cannot tell if they just forgot to update it or if they know more information than Western Digital does about their own products. My old boxes of WD Elements (500Gb from 2015 and 2Tb from 2018) mention compatibility with Windows 7, however, I have looked at the boxes in a local tech store for the newer versions of these models, and the new packaging only mentions Windows 8.1 and 10! The same applies to Western Digital's website.
